The red gate in front of the historic Almahurst Cabin at Ramsey Farm in Jessamine County, Kentucky stands in stark contrast to the surrounding landscape dusted in a thin layer of white from an early snow.
At an early age growing up in the mountains of eastern Kentucky, I was fascinated with photography but was never able to explore its possibilities with the little instamatic camera that I had. It really wasn't until 1994 as I prepared to go overseas as a volunteer with a Christian educational team in Russia that I invested in my first film SLR camera just days before leaving. Having no formal photography training, I taught myself how to use it by trial and error (lots of it!).
