The water of the Little Pigeon River at Greenbrier provides soothing music as it flows around the boulders in the stream.

At an early age growing up in the mountains of eastern Kentucky, I was fascinated with photography but was never able to explore its possibilities with the little instamatic camera that I had. It really wasn't until 1994 as I prepared to go overseas as a volunteer with a Christian educational team in Russia that I invested in my first film SLR camera just days before leaving. Having no formal photography training, I taught myself how to use it by trial and error (lots of it!).
